bedroomLab is a new program facilitated by SABAW Media Art Kitchen.

Your orbiting visual and sound bedroomlaboratories are charting new ways of audio and video interaction in the Philippines and beyond. We have had a particular interest in creating an open dialogue between the audio and video dimensions, a linkage with a long experimental pedigree.

Since the first home computer became available then, now digital technologies have become firmly integrated into our everyday lives. 'Digital culture' is no longer avant-garde terrain. SABAW has responded to this development by focusing its programmes not on the latest technical novelties and scientific speculations, but on the actual usage that people are making of such technologies.

bedroomLab is dedicated to contemporary electronic, digital and experimental music, as well the diverse range of artistic activities in the context of sound and video culture. bedroomLab presents projects that experiment with new aesthetic parameters and new forms of cooperation, develop possibilities for informational and economic self-determination, and reflect on the role of contemporary music against the backdrop of technological and social transformations. Now more than ever, music emerges as a laboratory for multiform experiments and as an active agent that allows for new cultural techniques to be tested and proffered to the wider world.

The path of music evolution is never straight, god forbid. Curveballs, odd combinations and juxtapositions feed the rich variability of production, fuel the creativity of producers, and aggravate and agitate listeners toward new territory. Artists for bedroomLab cross-pollinate and fertilize, expanding their reach and deepening their productions with the increased richness that comes with drawing new and unexpected connections. Get carried away by a program that straddles between live video manipulation against a backdrop of powerful club and textured home listening, connects experimental and pop, electro and rock, classic and futuristic, exploits contrast, digs-up unexpected links and builds spontaneous bridges into the unforeseen.
